Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Explorers and Planners parties.
Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
