Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the main straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
