Congress Approves Bill to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will force the release of official records concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a near-unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a reversal by the president and his GOP allies. Trump's team changed course after an extended period of trying to delay the cross-party initiative involving a controversy that has dogged the president since his comeback to the White House.

Swift Approval in Congress

The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, accelerating the process. Earlier that day, the House voted decisively for the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have waited long enough. Those affected have suffered long enough,” Chuck Schumer said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Uncover the facts. Let transparency reign.”

Future Action

The bill next goes to Donald Trump for his signature. He stated on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though Trump has for an extended period downplayed the uproar over the official management of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he expressed his backing for the House bill over the past few days, and said he would give his assent if it is presented to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with those affected and their supporters who were watching from a public section, broke into applause after the bill was enacted. The sole “no” vote came from a GOP representative, who stated he feared the measure would make public identifying details of individuals involved, potential suspects and others implicated in the investigation.
